The Project Management Institute (PMI) has identified new renewal requirements for their certifications such as their Project Management Professional (PMP), Program Management Professional (PgMP), etc. These new requirements go into effect December 1, 2015 so be sure you are familiar with the new requirements before your certification expires.

Details for the new requirements can be found on PMI’s website. As one would expect from an organization heavily involved with communication management and addressing change, the information provided not only clearly explains the new requirements, but the drivers behind the change.

PMI has introduced a new triangle, the PMI Talent Triangle, to demonstrate the key concepts driving the change in requirementsFor years, experienced project managers have realized that technical project management skills alone were not sufficient to lead most projects to success. The new triangle calls this out by making Leadership and Strategic and Business Management knowledge and skill equal parts with Technical Project Management knowledge and skill. This is a welcome change and reflective of what the marketplace is demanding from project managers. According to PMI, 75% of organizations rank leadership skills as the most important for successful navigation of complexity in projects.
